Lili Elbe — one of the first known gender-affirming surgeries

In 1930 Lili Elbe travelled to Germany for a series of gender-affirming surgeries (Berlin and Dresden), among the earliest such procedures on record. She died on 13 September 1931 from complications of the final operation. Her life was a landmark in early transgender history.
